History

New Cemetery

Adventurer and businessman Samuel R. Jackson bought four parcels of farmland on the corner of Pleasant St. and River Rd. In 1873, the picturesque fields were laid out for a park-like cemetery where families could picnic on the hill overlooking the Androscoggin River or stroll along the river bank. Nearly a century and a half later, Riverside is still an active cemetery and a lovely place to visit.
